Hailstones

The hailstones are the size of marbles and bounce onto the ground
like drumsticks rasping on a drum.
The storm threatened an hour ago, but the rain has turned to hail.
The sound is just as loud and distinctive as they fall
The pitter-patter increases to a deafening roar
as the heavens open and
cover the ground with millions of balls of ice.
